About this property

Welcome to Lake Yellowstone Hotel & Cabins

Situated on the north edge of Yellowstone Lake within Yellowstone National Park, Lake Yellowstone Hotel & Cabins occupies a restored Colonial Revival–style building dating back to 1891. Its lakeside location offers scenic views directly from the front porch and the main lobby, which features spacious seating areas and an elegant atmosphere enhanced by nightly piano music.

The property provides a mix of historic hotel rooms and nearby cabins that are clean and comfortable, appealing to visitors seeking a classic park lodging experience. Guests often note the absence of modern air conditioning and Wi-Fi in most areas, which suits those looking for a more traditional, tranquil stay with fresh air flowing through rooms.

On-site dining includes the Lake Yellowstone Hotel Dining Room, a fine dining restaurant known for well-prepared meals with picturesque lake views; however, reservations are recommended as availability can be limited. A small deli offers coffee and light fare, though some visitors found room for more variety, especially for guests with specific dietary needs.

The hotel’s amenities are practical and family-friendly, featuring free parking, accessibility accommodations, and pet-friendly policies. While there is no pool, fitness center, or airport shuttle, the location serves well those interested in nearby outdoor activities including wildlife viewing in Hayden Valley, fishing at Fishing Bridge, and camping near Bridge Bay.

Reviews highlight gracious service, a relaxing historic ambiance, and exceptional surroundings, though some guests mention the limited modern conveniences and the need to plan dining ahead. Ideal for travelers wanting a peaceful, scenic stay within Yellowstone National Park, this property ranks as a solid choice for visitors prioritizing heritage and natural beauty over extensive amenities.

Loved this location in the center of Yellowstone. A grand hotel with gracious service. Rooms are lovely and main lobby is grand but welcoming. Comfortable seating areas with a piano to set a lovely relaxing mood. We had dinner here (make reservations) that was great. Nice choices and great service. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Views of the lake from the front porch were amazing. No air conditioning and no neat but the weather cooperated with our stay and we were very comfortable

My husband and I drove down through Yellowstone to get to my daughter’s wedding in Lander Wyoming. Enjoying the scenes along the way. We stayed at Yellowstone Hotel one night and it’s absolutely stunning. Beautiful historic atmosphere light airy. Amazing staff. Amazing views. Great food. The rooms and beds are comfortable.

We stayed in one of the cute cabins that were comfortable and close to the main hotel. The place is very clean and the elk were everywhere! The main hotel is lovely but we didn't realize you had to make reservations to the only restaurant (they were fully booked). I have food allergies and the Lake Lodge close by had food that wasn't very good with limited options. We had lunch there and then went to the Fishing Bridge general store for some items to get us through dinner. The general store at the hotel was closed for the season.

We always love staying at the Hotel here at Lake Yellowstone, and this time, we tried our own cabin. It was very nice, clean and comfortable, and we would stay here again when we come back. One hint, make dinner reservations at the LYHotel if you want to have dinner here, otherwise, you can find family type fare down the road at the Lodge. We love this NP above all others!

Best hotel in Yellowstone hands down . The entire hotel is a relaxing throw back experience with quiet rooms , beautiful bathrooms , spectacular lobby and endless views . The restaurant serves menu food in a beautiful dining area with incredible views . The lobby is stately bright and expansive .We stayed here and at Old Faithful Inn and this was far and beyond a better overall experience . I wish we would have only stayed here . Old Faithful Inn , with its pavement views and dingy dark rooms and buffet dining , is not nearly as nice and relaxing . This hotel is a true vacation experience . We will return .

Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at Lake Yellowstone Hotel last weekend. The historic hotel is very well maintained and managed. All staff were friendly, efficient, and professional. We really enjoyed lounging in the large sunroom/lobby area, including the nightly piano music (background, no singing). Our one dinner in the dining room was really very good w perfectly cooked salmon over an interesting mix of veggies and beautifully presented. Service and drinks were excellent as well. Breakfast buffet was good. I really appreciated attention/options r/t gluten free. Our room was a pleasant queen room w nice spacious bathroom and comfy bed. Nice that windows can open for fresh air. We especially enjoyed observing the family of elk that hung around the hotel and strolling out along the quite large, beautiful lake.

Beautiful grand old hotel with amazing views of Yellowstone Lake. We enjoyed watching the elk roam the premises. Dinner in the main dining room was very good with more outstanding views and excellent service. The Basque cake dessert and the huckleberry ice cream are delicious. There’s a large sitting area overlooking the lake with a piano player each evening. We were fortunate that we had internet in our room but unfortunately, there was no internet in other areas of hotel. Buffet breakfast looked good. We didn’t partake. Coffee and hot chocolate sold in the deli were good but expensive. I wish they had fresh complimentary coffee for guests and hot cocoa in the evening. The room was ok. It was clean and beds comfortable but room not spacious. Coffee maker in room. Broader range of room selections such as family suites would be a great addition. Overall, great stay and recommend for a night or two.

This is the oldest hotel in Yellowstone National Park and first opened in 1891. The architectural design of the hotel was significantly changed in 1903 giving it the “Colonial Revival” style it is known for today. This three-story clapboard hotel sits at the heart of Yellowstone along the north edge of Lake Yellowstone. The facade which faces the lake is the most stunning with the columns, balconies and steps that lead up to the front entrance. Inside the hotel there is a large upscale dining area, a large lobby with a bar and beautiful lounge area with oversized tall windows to sit and admire the view. There is also a gift shop within the lobby. The staff members at this hotel greeted us with warm and friendly smiles and made sure our stay was memorable. Our room was warm and comfortable but was very small size including the bath. There is a large parking lot to the rear with several different entries. But most of all, this hotel is perfectly situated along the lake and at the heart of the park. The hotel prices are quite high when considering the overall room and services, but it is all about the location, and this is one of the best places to be.
